Tashi Lhaga

Tashi Lhaga is a distinguished painter of the Menri (Mentang) School of Thangka, recognized as a direct successor of the lineage of Danba Raodan (1941–2022), the first-generation National Intangible Cultural Heritage inheritor of Tibetan Thangka (Menri style) and professor at Tibet University.

Originating in Shigatse, the Menri style integrates elements of Nepalese and Chinese painting traditions. It is characterized by delicate and luminous colors, dignified and proportionate figures, and elegant, flowing lines. As an orthodox inheritor, Tashi Lhaga is renowned for his unique background compositions: no two Thangkas share the same design, ensuring each work is truly one of a kind and resistant to replication.

His portrait style emphasizes gentle and serene expressions, echoing the refined elegance of the old Menri tradition. Through his art, the compassion and wisdom of the deities are vividly conveyed. Tashi Lhaga is regarded as one of the most distinctive contemporary Menri painters, highly esteemed by monasteries and collectors alike.
