Gesang Ciruo
Gesang Ciruo, a Tibetan Thangka painter, began training in Thangka art at the age of 15 under Master Taje. After a decade of rigorous study, he graduated in 2016 and has since devoted over 18 years to the profession. He has been recognized as the representative inheritor of Zidong Thangka (Menri School) under the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Nanmulin County, Shigatse.
Gesang Ciruo serves as the official painter-monk of Tashilhunpo Monastery, the traditional seat of the Panchen Lamas and one of the Six Great Monasteries of the Gelugpa tradition. Being entrusted to create and restore murals for such a monastery is considered the highest honor and lifelong aspiration for any Thangka artist, requiring not only mastery of artistic technique but also deep spiritual discipline and knowledge of Buddhist iconography. His works are solemn, meticulous, and majestic, embodying the grandeur of Gelugpa art. Several of his works have also been collected by the National Museum of China and regional museums.
